Why Vote for Wanda

The points below demonstrate my vision, leadership, and experience, and ability to collaborate across the organization to deliver successfully. It happens through teamwork. I look forward to having the opportunity to provide leadership for IEEE as your 2017 IEEE President-Elect.

Strong technical vision to best serve IEEE members:

IEEE Smart Grid, which I started in 2010 and led for four years, is a great example! It now has over 84,000 followers involving 14 partnering organizational units. It is a success story for investing in IEEE’s future by developing collaboration, building a trusted voice, outreaching to industry, expediting adoption of social media and establishing a best-practice model for other IEEE multi-disciplinary initiatives to follow.

Proven leadership track record:

Under my leadership, the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) was rebranded and new products were released during my Presidential tenure in 2008-2009. As a result, PES membership has nearly doubled in the last seven years and is now the second largest technical society in IEEE. It is financially viable and new talent continues to arrive with introductions through the IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative. This is an initiative that I launched in 2011 and is the first Signature Program for the IEEE Foundation. Since inception, we have attracted $6.5M in philanthropic contributions enabling over 900 scholarship awards.

In-depth knowledge of IEEE:

I served on the IEEE Board, the IEEE Foundation Board, PES Board, Technical Activities Board, Women In Engineering Board and Publications and Service Products Board. This involvement has given me perspective of IEEE from multiple vantage points and an in-depth knowledge of the operations which has been leveraged to
• Launch IEEE Signature Programs
• Increase Chapter participation globally
• Develop standards framework, new publications, social media and investments to support emerging topics
• Improve financial transparency and controls
• Increase industry relevancy
• Build IT capability to meet evolving organizational needs

Connection with IEEE members globally:

In 2015 alone, I have been to all ten of the IEEE Regions delivering keynotes, tutorials, distinguished lectures and Chapter training. The understanding of global membership needs that I have gained by “being there” will be very useful if you choose me as the 2017 IEEE President-Elect.
