Wanda has done such a great work for PES leading the society and initiating the Smart Grid Program. The possibility to have her leadership for IEEE is an opportunity we should not miss! I strongly recommend her as an outstanding candidate.Lisa Berting

Lina Bertling, Professor in Power Grid Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology

I first met Wanda Reder in 2008 at the CIGRE General Session in Paris, where she was representing the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) as its President. A few months later I joined the IEEE PES Governing Board as Region 8 Representative: it is mainly serving in the IEEE PES role that I become aware of Wanda’s outstanding skills as a farsighted manager and as a leading expert in power system design and operation. Wanda is one of the very few people I know that combines leading technical expertise in power systems design/operation and outstanding skills of farsighted Prof. Carlo Alberto Nuccimanager. These two assets have regularly brought large, tangible benefits – from technical innovation to progress in productivity – both for the electric power industry and for her employers.

Ms. Reder’s activities have been highly recognized by the international technical community, as demonstrated by the numerous recognitions and awards Wanda has received. As President of the IEEE PES, Wanda definitively increased PES leadership in emerging technical areas such as smart grids and energy sustainability. While serving as Region 8 Rep for IEEE PES, I was impressed by her capability of achieving goals, by her concern for young power engineers (Wanda strongly supported the creation of a formal committee I am serving as chair, working on basic design concepts of PES Careers-Global for Region 8 ) and by her unique style. IEEE would benefit from Wanda’s demonstrated capability and leadership. She is an excellent choice for the 2017 IEEE President-Elect.

Prof. Carlo Alberto NucciChair of Power SystemsDepartment of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering School of Engineering and Architecture

At this time of great internal and external challenges for the IEEE, we need a courageous, effective, visionary, and inspiring leader with a deep understanding of the IEEE. I’ve known Wanda for many years, in her IEEE-wide roles, and in her role as Chair of the groundbreaking IEEE Smart Grid Initiative. You won’t find anyone who better meets those leadership criteria than Wanda Reder. We would be fortunate to have her as our IEEE President.

Steve Diamond, IEEE Board of Directors (2009-10, 2005-06), President Emeritus, IEEE Computer Society

I first met Wanda Reder (Ms. Reder) when I was a fledgling Chair for Women in Engineering (WIE) in 2010. The role was well known to Ms. Reder having successfully chaired the Chicago Section affinity group years prior to my tenure. I was advised to ask Wanda if she would be willing to speak at the first Welcome Reception for WIE because she is “a heavy hitter”. I knew very little about Wanda during that time. I asked her, with the minimal expectation that she would respond. Much to my surprise, given her capacity and hectic travel schedule, not only did Wanda positively respond but she came directly to the function from the airport upon arrival from a long and tedious international flight that very same hour. She delivered the wow factor with her dynamic and informational presentation on the accomplishments and future goals of power and energy. She rendered hope to quite a few graduate students who aspired to become electrical engineers.
However, my interest did not stop there with Wanda; it was heightened even more. I followed her through the years, remained in awe at her accomplishments and her reach-outs all over the world and have never been disappointed. I learned that she:

  • became the first female IEEE PES President;
  • successfully pioneered the first PES Scholarship that still grows strong today;
  • was inducted as an IEEE Fellow which was inevitably well deserved. I had the privilege of attending the ceremony;
  • enthusiastically supported the first IEEE Fellows Gala as an active committee member and finally;
  • The IEEE PES recently presented the Wanda Reder Pioneer in Power award in her honor.

I strongly endorse and believe that Wanda not only earned the right, but deserves worldwide support for IEEE 2017 President-Elect. She is loyal…it is time to show our loyalty.

Vickie L. Peters, 2016 Immediate Past Chair and Advisory Committee IEEE Chicago Section

I am enthusiastically endorsing Wanda Reder for IEEE President-Elect because she will bring innovative leadership, rigorous and transparent decision-making, and strategic new thinking to the IEEE. I saw first hand Wanda’s leadership and strategic ideas for the IEEE committees that she served. Wanda led the IEEE Smart Grid new initiatives project involving multiple IEEE Societies to a highly successful outcome.

As the Powewith Roger Fujiir and Energy Society President, Wanda drove new initiatives that created new revenue products for her society. Perhaps as her lasting legacy, she created the IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative that has revitalized new engineers who are entering careers in power
and energy. Wanda also serves on several academic boards where she advises on critical academic curricula.

Susan K. Land, Computer Society President-Elect and IEEE BoD 2013-14 and Division V Director on the IEEE Board of Directors

Wanda Reder is IEEE Division VII Director, member of the IEEE PES Governing Board, and mentor to countless young people and colleagues. Through her leadership, IEEE PES experienced the name change and unprecedented membership growth. She was a champion of the Scholarship Plus program (which benefits image1hundreds of students every year), and she has led the IEEE Smart Grid initiative, giving it organization, content, and enrolling a number of enthusiasts to join and support it.

The number of Smart Grid supporters on LinkedIn today exceeds the entire membership of the IEEE PES. In fiscal matters, Wanda is a conservative manager and fearless advocate for transparency. Her leadership style breeds success. Wanda deserves our support on IEEE President-Elect Petition!

Dr. Miroslav Begovic, President of IEEE Power and Energy Society

Wanda inspires me and has achieved so many Firsts—first female president of IEEE PES, established the first PES scholarship fund, launched original “IEEE Smart Grid” brand, and commenced IEEE’s first JessicaBiancapital campaign and I am so privileged to be a part of her Firsts—I am the first recipient of the IEEE PES Wanda Reder Pioneer in Power Award!

I support her IEEE President-Elect Petition. Like her “IEEE Smart Grid” ingenuity, Wanda’s leadership will bring IEEE’s global multidisciplinary talents together to create the first “Smart IEEE enterprise.”
